Stellar to say the least Review by El Chuckarino

The movie is a great portrayal of the beauty of flyfishing, fly casting and the coveted heaven on earth to a flyfisher like myself, New Zealand! There are some offensive dead mice brutalized by stomach acids and piscivorous teeth of trout scenes, but other than that, STELLAR. I have owned this video for quite some time now, and it still get's a lot of air time at my house. (Posted on 2/5/12)

"Once in a Blue" is a magical film that we discover, rivers, landscapes magnifique.Les authors were able to make images of this magical movie.

There is a serene atmosphere in the plans for landscapes and electrified in the sequences of fishing, shooting under water are superb.

I am far from New Zealand. This film gives me more desire to explore and fish this faraway land.

"Once in a Blue " est un film magique qui nous fait découvrir, des rivières, des paysages magnifique.Les auteurs ont su rendre les images de ce film magique.

Il règne une atmosphère sereine dans les plans de vue des paysages et électrisée dans les séquences de pêche, les prises de vue sous l'eau sont superbes.

Je suis loin de la Nouvelle-Zélande. Ce film me donne de plus en plus l'envie de découvrir et de pêcher cette contrée lointaine.

This movie was easy to sit through with a great mix of fishing, interviews, music, and insight. The mouse hatch seems to crazy to be true but to see humongus trout eat mice patterns will blow your mind. Great scenery shots as well as amazing trout footage including underwater footage this is possibly one of the most spectacular angling videos made. I highly recommend to any fishing or film enthusiast.

Who knew? Review by Rick

After watching this vid, I wondered if mice/shrews/voles in other countries do the same thing. The number of mice in a trouts stomach reminded me of the salmon fly hatch on the Gunnison River in the US. When food is plentiful the fish gorge themselves in a hedge against the future. Who knew they had that much foresight? Great film work, with stunning scenes of all the creatures involved. I would love to fish the mice, but how do you predict a blue moon? (Posted on 10/19/09)
Amazing DVD Review by Jens
I have been fishing most of my life but only recently (last 10 years) gotten into fly fishing. This movie has not only spurred my interest in fly fishing but it has improved my technique as well. I would recommend this movie to anyone that fishes and also to anyone that appreciates great photography of beautiful places. (Posted on 10/16/09)
the greatest fly fishing documentary ever Review by Tim

The incredible story of a once in a lifetime event. Set amongst the spectacular scenery of southern New Zealand, a most strange and bizarre tale unfolds. The stuff of folklore, 'Once in a Blue Moon' unravels the mystery of an event that occurs briefly once a decade. This strange and unreal journey takes us into some of the most remote and beautiful parts of New Zealand as we follow one anglers quest to document and unravel a childhood mystery and catch the fish of a lifetime. In an unpredictable chain of events a mass flowering of the ancient New Zealand Beech forest leads to an excess of seed production. Mice and rodents take advantage of this abundance and numbers reach plague proportions. Incredible footage follows these rodents as they embark on a strange migration, attempting to swim across the expanse of New Zealand's rivers and lakes. There they fall prey to the largest predators in the lake - monster Brown trout. Gorging themselves on swimming mice, these fish become extremely aggressive and grow to epic proportions. For a fly fishing Angler, this is the stuff dreams are made of. This bizarre phenomenon has remained a mystery...until now... Incredible Cinematography Shot in beautiful high definition 'Once in a Blue Moon' reveals this bizarre story. Stunning cinematography, never before seen underwater footage, fantastic fly fishing and amazing trout behavior will take you deep into the tale of the fabulous and mysterious "Mouse Year". If you are a serious fly angler and appreciate expert casting, this film is an absolute must.
