As someone who appreciates history and all things vintage it is refreshing to see the reemergence of some classic styled rods in the midst of constantly evolving technologies to keep customers forking out $500 on new fly rods. When I made the decision to enter the already crowded and oversaturated fly rod market I knew I wanted to introduce an affordable fly rod that has a classic look and smooth action that is such a joy to cast it reminds us of what fly fishing is all about. Make no mistake; the Ruby River while affordable is an extremely well made fly rod which includes Pacific Bay titanium coated single foot guides, AAA half well cork handle with compressed cork ring accents on each end. With a beautiful natural wood reel seat, transparent red finish, burgundy wraps with silver accents I feel this rod is as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional. The Ruby River is available in a 6’7” 3wt and a 7’8” 4wt. Both are four piece rods which come with a cotton rod cloth.

Great little rod!
Rod is well- balanced with 1-size trout reel, casts well with expected soft action. Finish is clean, sections fit well together, reel seat of good quality as is the cork handle. Can't wait to take it out to my local pond.

Graceful Performance!
Just returned from a week in the Rockies, where I was blown away by this rod's performance and accuracy. In breezy conditions I was able to gently loop dry flies spot-on target. Paired the 6'7" GCRR 3 wt rod up with an Orvis Battenkill 1 Fly Reel 2 3/4" click pawl drag reel. Wow...what fun I had! Giggling out loud as I gracefully delivered insane 20'-30' casts when necessary. Although my primary expensive 3 wt rod/reel setup is definitely a laser-accurate-workhorse, it's definitely not as fun to fish with as this rod!

The perfect little rod for how I fish.
Having never fished with a fiberglass rod I was a little skeptical if I would like one. But the price was so good and I figured if I didn't like it I'd just sell it. Well, I really like this rod. I mainly fish small streams in Western North Carolina and this rod is perfect for how we fish here. The 6'7" 3 wt. is perfect. it casts effortlessly and makes landing a 7" Blue Ridge Brookie a hell of a lot of fun. I bought the 8' 5wt. blank also and will assemble it this winter. I'm looking forward to trying it out on some of the larger rivers next summer.

Outstanding glass fly rod
Got to cast the 4 and 5 wt rods today. Wonderful build quality. A bit heavy, but very tight loops and great accuracy. Nice backbone to push a loop into some wind. Just be sure to get the right reel and line on them. Great rods!

Nice Rod, Excellent Price
I haven't fished the rod yet but it did very well on grass. Pleasant cast, reasonable distance and accuracy. The real seat has a very nice burl insert. The rod looks pretty but has a few minor imperfections. The cork handle has lots of filler. (So did my TFO). I recommend a coat of cork seal before getting it wet and fishing it hard. The guides are very stiff. I would have preferred a little more give or spring in them to take the occasional accidental abuse. We will see how well they last after a few years of actual use. The rod finish isn't perfect. It has a few flaws you can feel if you run you fingers along the shaft. They aren't noticeable unless you really look for them. It won't hurt how it will cast and fish at all. I've used fly rods for over 40 years. This is a nice rod with good performance and excellent price for what you get.

The quality of workmanship 5 star. The feel of the rod and casting creates a feeling of reverence. I love how the fly is delivered. Surprised at the responsiveness of the rod and the feeling of control I have had throughout the process of delivery and hooking and retrieving. Thank you Green Caddis

Excellent quality in all the components at a great price and casts like a dream. The 6'7" 3 wt is the best casting short glass rod I've owned, perfect for small stream fishing.

Excellent product
I just took this rod for a test drive on the L.A. River and found it cast poppers beautifully with lots of nice fiberglass action. It threw the flies much farther than I expected. Not so good with weighted nymphs, but that's not why I bought the rod.

There's s small extra ring on one of the rod sections that I wish wasn't there.

But great rod, amazing price, over all and the color rocks.

I've been looking for a quality fiberglass fly rod for a while. When I found this webpage read the reviews of this fly rod I had to order one! Shipping was fast! I was very pleased with the packaging. A pleasant surprise was the included rod case and wrapping.

I have practice cast it and I can't wait to try it out on my favorite trout stream!

Looks good and hoping to use it in the near future
I just received the new rod and planned on trying to use it over a weekend on my new business trip to the east. Then we got hit with the Polar Chill for several weeks which changed my plans accordingly. I'll get back with you when the weather warms a little above freezing.

I rec'd a 3wt in very good time. It's a neat little rod, just right for some of the trout streeams that I fish. I will also use it on panfish. I like short fly rods and this one
is a dandy.

Awesome small stream rod!!!
I was looking for an affordable rod, for fishing some of the tighter small streams out here in Colorado. Heard about the rod through the "Fiberglass Manifesto". Went ahead and ordered the 7' 8" 4 weight. Really having fun catching little Brookies and Cutties on this rod! Worth every penny. I paired it up with my old Pfleuger Medalist reel. Awesome rod for the money. Love the slower fiberglass action!!!

I am so very pleased!!
I received my Ruby River Fiberglass Rod last week and it completely exceeded my expectations. The reel seat, cork grip, and rod windings are spectacular and, best of all, it casts like a dream from the past.!! Reminds me of my old Fenwick and Shakespeare rods from the60's, but much, much better, and it still has that unmistakable "fiberglass" feel.!!

Magnificent value!
The rod is all I could have hoped for and more. I love the slow deliberate full flex action. My fishing doesn't require 60+ foot casts, but it does require protection for fine 6x and 7x tippets. I think I'm in love!!

Hi there,

Many thanks for the rod. I’ve got a rod on Saturday morning and went the same evening for fishing.
Beautiful rod, fast loading and in a drill sensitive.
Really a good one for this price.

I haven't tried it yet. I intend to use it on tight small streams in SW Wisconsin and New Zealand. It should be great for short delicate casts.

Quality Rod at an affordable price.
I received my 7'8" 4wt last week. First impression was a very nice reel seat, excellent handle and a beautiful red color blank. The wraps were simple, but nicely done and it comes with a hook keeper. I strung it up with a WF4 and took it out on the lawn. The action is a bit slower than a lot of the modern glass rod out now, and the blank flexes throughout it's length. Just a very pleasant feeling rod in the hand. I took it out to the local pond with some drys, nymphs & poppers to see how it handled on the water. The rod had no problem handling any of them. The nice easy action allows for a nice soft presentation of a dry. I next tried a double nymph rig (a staple on Wisconsin spring creeks) with an indicator. I was easily able to "open" my loop on my cast and get the rig out there. Poppers required a bit more oomph to cast, but the tip drives thru, after making your forward cast, to turn the leader over and set the popper out there with a "plop".

Overall, I am very pleased with the rod, and I look forward to really "wringing" it out this summer!

Outstanding value
Been fishing this rod everyday since I got it. Beautiful fit and finish, nice quality and casts like butter. I bought the 3wt and this rod had classic fiberglass action but, enough backbone to handle 16+" fish. I will purchase the 4wt soon. The value of these rods far exceeds the cost. Very pleased with this purchase.

Amazing quality and performance
My Ruby River arrived today and I immediately took it out to start beating the grass to a fare thee well. This is exactly the rod I wanted to transport me back to my very first fly outfit, a Wright and McGill 6.5 ft. hitched to a Pflueger Medalist. Like almost every other fly fisher I know, I got caught up in the power craze and now that I'm on the last cog of the 60 decade, I yearn for the soft grace and elegance of my youth. I didn't quite know what to expect since the cheapest glass rod I could find anywhere was $250 but the Ruby River is beautifully finished and casts just like I had hoped. What fun it will be on small stream trout in Montana.
